Is Giving Presents Considered Rude Nowadays?
Posted: August 15, 2011 Filed under: life, society 1 Comment »I will not lie, I like to get stuff. I enjoy gifts, I appreciate them very much. But even more, I enjoy giving gifts. I love to make things for my friends and buy unique and interesting things for them. I don’t do it to guilt them into getting me something – but unfortunately that seems to be the mindset of a lot of people today.
I’ve noticed an increasing amount of people who do not like to get gifts. Rather than saying “thank you” when presented with a gift, it seems to have become the norm for people to apologize, repeatedly tell you “you didn’t have to get me anything,” feel completely guilty, and not say thank you once. Do they think enjoying the gift is going to reflect badly on them as a person? Make them seem greedy and selfish? Do they think that now they are obliged to get you something? Even so, they should know that if they don’t enjoy the gift it’s going to make you feel like shit.
To me, when you get a gift for someone, it’s to tell them that you appreciate them and that they are an important figure in your day-to-day life. Not because you want them to get you something in return. If your friend gets you a present, and then has a fit because you couldn’t get them anything – they’re probably a shitty friend anyways. I’ve never heard of a friendship ending because “she didn’t get me anything for my birthday.” If I can’t afford a gift, or I don’t have time to go looking for one, I just tell the person that I’m sorry but I couldn’t get them a gift – I don’t tear myself up over it. And I’ve never had a person get angry that I couldn’t get them anything either.
So, those are my thoughts on that. How do you feel about getting presents and how do the people in your life react when you get something for them?
A History Lesson From a Feminist Cunt

Although I actually hate the term “feminism.” Thanks to crazy bitches, a lot of people are now under the impression that being a feminist means you believe that all men are evil and that this should be a female dominated society. In reality, feminism is simply the belief that men and women should be treated equally.
Anyways, now that that’s out of the way I wanted to write a rant about this picture I found. It’s part of a meme called “Feminist Cunt,” which shows a picture of Ashley Judd with bulging neck veins, and a T-shirt that says: “this is what a feminist looks like.” And did I mention the bulging neck veins? This meme appears to be a butthurt response to radical feminism.
This is one of the captions I found while browsing:
“Men have always oppressed women! Like all the men who died in WWI and WWII while the women stayed safely at home.”
First of all, I don’t see how the second statement relates to the first at all. Secondly, I don’t think this is a sexist statement, but a sadly uneducated one. Whoever wrote this apparently didn’t realize that, at that time, men didn’t allow women to do that kind of thing. Women stayed at home BECAUSE of sexism. BECAUSE they were treated like delicate little flowers that needed to be ready to make TONS OF BABIES when the men got home. Guess what? Women still aren’t allowed to serve on the front lines.
Also, women were hardly “safe” at home. Since conscription (also known as drafting, you may have heard of it) sent all of the men off to war, women took on the male jobs of that time. Some became police officers, some became farm managers. But millions of women went to work in bullet factories. Many women died from explosions because keeping sparks away from the materials was impossible. Other women worked with TNT. Lengthy exposure to TNT caused severe poisoning which turned your skin yellow and your hair orange.
And in WWII, over 850,000 women (between Britain and America) joined the military in non-combatant roles. Many women became pilots, transport drivers, ambulance drivers, balloon handlers, and farm workers. Why non-combatant? Because they were expected to return home after the war and resume their roles as wives and mothers. (Soviet and Chinese women took up arms, however.) They weren’t put into dangerous situations, not because they didn’t want to be, but because the men wanted to make sure there was still going to be someone to make them sammiches and do their laundry after the war. Also, the Japanese army forced as many as two hundred thousand women between the ages of fourteen to twenty into prostitution to keep the soldiers happy. Many of them died from disease or became casualties of war. How’s that for “safely at home?”
Anyways, I hope I’ve managed to educate a few people in the process of this rant, and hopefully the creator of that caption has since decided to take a history class.

Etsy, mannequins, and stuff.
Posted: July 13, 2011 Filed under: art, crafts, etsy, jewelry, life | Tags: closed, etsy, jewelry, mannequin, markets vs. online, selling, shop Leave a comment »So I just closed my Etsy shop, hooray!
No seriously, I hadn’t made a single sale, I do much better at the markets. I truly believe it’s much harder to maintain an Etsy shop and be successful there than it is at an actual market. You have to take really good photos, you have to put time into promoting your shop and if you don’t renew your items constantly your listings tend to slip away into the back pages and are never looked at. On top of that, a lot of people, including myself, don’t really like to buy online because you can’t touch and feel the item and something that appeared to be one way in a photo might actually be a different way when you get it in the mail. So you might see something you really want but are hesitant to buy it.
At a market, you set up, put your stuff out, sit around for a few hours and watch people look at your stuff. Sometimes they buy something, most of the time they don’t. But you don’t have to take any pictures, you don’t have to worry about tags or keywords or categories. It’s just there, and people can look at it and touch it and if they want it bad enough they’ll buy it.
On another note, I just made a neck mannequin. I saw one at Wal-Mart, but cheap old me didn’t want to pay $6 for it. So I did some Googling and found that if you’re willing to mummify yourself in duct-tape, it’s actually quite easy to make your own mannequin. So I did. I took an old turtleneck my mom didn’t want and wrapped my shoulders and neck in duct tape, had her cut me free and then bent it to a smaller shape and taped it back up again, then put some cardboard on the inside to make it sturdier and stuffed it with paper bags. Then, I covered it in paper mache. It’s not finished yet, I need to let it dry and paint it. I will post pictures of it (and some new jewelry) in a later post.
Also, stay tuned, for in the near future I will be posting a blog in complete tribute to tattoos and piercings. I was talking to somebody I know and they said something along the lines of “getting all tattooed and pierced is just as destructive as alcohol and drug abuse!” I firmly disagree. So even though she doesn’t read this blog or know of it’s existence, I’m going to go find some hot people with hot tattoos and piercings and feature them here just to spite her. Expect a very hot entry in the near future.
Oh God I Want These
Posted: June 28, 2011 Filed under: Uncategorized 1 Comment »So I’ve picked up Fallout: New Vegas again and I’ve been on a quest to find fifty Sunset Sarsaparilla Star Bottlecaps. So it was a little strange when I hopped onto Etsy and found these:

Especially the second one, which, even if you’ve never even HEARD of Fallout before is still a beautiful necklace. Unfortunately It’s a bit too pricey for me, but the shop sells a similar bottle cap without all the flair for 13 that I might buy and then modify myself.

That probably makes no sense. Anyways, I woke up one morning (I usually have ideas for jewelry immediately upon waking up) and said…what if I tried that with wire? And so I did, and these happened. I’ve made about four so far, one using hemp instead of wire. These two are for sale on my Etsy shop.
Red vs Blue, Season 9, episode 1: A Review
Posted: June 14, 2011 Filed under: Entertainment, Games, Movies, Reviews, Shows, Uncategorized | Tags: episode 1, episode one, Red vs Blue, review, review of, Rooster Teeth, Season 9, Season 9 episode 1, Season Nine 2 Comments »SPOILERS OF BOTH SEASON 8 AND SEASON 9 AHEAD.
And here we go, summer suddenly sucks less. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the Rooster Teeth guys forever and appreciate everything they’ve done and I know they work their asses off to please their fans. I just felt like this episode was a little…stagnant. However, although I was a little disappointed, keep reading to see why I thought the stagnation is actually quite beneficial.
The premier for season 8 was fantastic and got me jumping up and down in my seat doing my little high pitched squee noise. Season 9, episode 1, just left me sitting there going, “That was it?” It might have had something to do with the heavy site traffic and the fact that I got an error message for about an hour of trying to get onto Rooster Teeth.com and I kept telling myself it would be totally worth it. Instead I found myself thinking that the trailer was more exciting than the actual premier episode.
Season 8, episode 1, just had this great hook that I didn’t feel was present here. Season 8 jumped right into the story and here we just have the Blues spying on the Reds, and then some weird rumbling happens, and Church says some vague stuff about there needing to be order and runs off. Of course if you saw the last season, and the trailer for season 9 (and you aren’t a total idiot) you should have a pretty good idea of what is going on. But this episode didn’t really have much to push the season’s plot forward, and give us an idea of what would be going on in later episodes. Even the last little bit with the Director and the agent list wasn’t very informational.
Let’s break it down.
Now, if we’ve seen the end of season eight, we know Church is trapped inside the Epsilon unit and everything that’s going on is a fabrication based on his memories of the people he knew.
And after watching the trailer we know that season 9 is going to be partly a back-story about the origin of Project Freelancer.
And after watching Season 9, episode 1, we know that we will be following the endeavors of Church who is trapped inside the Epsilon unit and everything that is going on is a fabrication based on memories, and that there is going to be a back-story about the origin of Project Freelancer. In other words, Episode 1 might as well have been a second trailer.
Now, I was a little upset, until I scrolled down and started reading comments and saw that a lot of people had no idea what was going on. Some people were not even aware that this was all a fabrication in Church’s brain. I’m assuming they saw the end of season 8, I’m assuming they saw the trailer, and they were still lost. So how can you start jumping right into the story if a ton of people are like “um wats going on here? why is Donut back i thot he was dead!!!!!!! I have no idea what’s going on!!” Episode 1 is acting as a “buffer zone,” if you will. Providing key details, but not rushing into the plot, so that other members have time to fill in the people who weren’t paying attention on what’s going on. (Italics indicate areas where I wanted to use more offensive adjectives.) Then, hopefully, we’ll dive right into the story.
Anyways, it’s either coincidence or strategic genius on the RT guys’ part. Now, if you don’t mind, I’ve been putting off food in order to write this review and I really need to go make dinner.
Pizza Filled Crescent Rolls Recipe
Posted: June 9, 2011 Filed under: Cooking, Food, Recipe | Tags: Crescent Rolls, Food, Mini Calzones, Pizza, Recipe 2 Comments »Hi, as you can see, I have found a name for my blog. “No Interruptions.” Because that sounds cool I guess. Soon I will replace that big ugly text up there with a pretty brown and blue header image.
But right now I’m going to share an experiment I just tried. A delicious experiment.
These are pizza filled crescent rolls, or mini-calzones, as I called them. What we have here is regular old everyday Pillsbury crescent rolls stuffed with stuff you’d normally put into a pizza. But I guess you could stuff them with just about anything. I chose to make pepperoni and veggie ones. The veggie ones consisting of mushrooms, onions, and peppers.
You Will Need:
Your desired number of crescent rolls, they come in packages of eight.
Your desired filling, measurements depending on how many rolls you want. I made seven pepperoni rolls with about a half-pound of pepperoni, and six rolls with about half a package of medium sized mushrooms, and half a pepper. Then I made a few with both pepperoni and veggies.
1 Package of Mozzarella cheese or your cheese of choice
Pizza Sauce can be made using tomato sauce and dashes garlic powder, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil, to taste. I suggest using a small can because you will have some left over.
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Take everything you want to put into the roll and chop it into little bits.
- If you’re using veggies, make sure you saute them before putting them into the roll, and meat should be pre-cooked because you can only have it in the oven for as long as it takes to cook the crescent rolls.
- Take a single triangle of crescent roll dough and stretch it out a bit, tugging gently at the corners and edges, if it tears a bit, that’s okay. Lay it on a flat surface.
- Using a spoon, spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the dough, sprinkle on your cheese, and then put one or two spoonfulls of your filling of choice onto the wide end of the triangle.
- Now fold the two end corners over the filling and roll it up
- Pinch the ends closed and place them on a greased cookie sheet.
- When you’re all done, place them in the oven and bake for 11-13 minutes.
I only made them this time with pepperoni and veggies, but if anyone tries it with other fillings, please let me know how it turned out!

Posted: June 6, 2011 Filed under: Games | Tags: e3, Lara Croft, Tomb Raider, trailer, Video Games Leave a comment »I’ve been playing Tomb Raider since I was a little girl and my response to this was quite similar to my response when I first saw the Underworld trailer. That is, I banged my fists together and made a very high pitched “EEEEEEEEEEEE” noise for about thirty seconds. I’m not a huge fan of 3rd person games but this is my one exception.
This installment focuses on Lara’s origin story, apparently telling how she became to be a hardened survivor after being stranded on an island due to a boat crash. The trailer confused me because when I learned there was going to be a new Tomb Raider game I assumed it was a sequel to Tomb Raider: Underworld, but it all made sense after a little googling. Even though the fact that it is an origin story has been pretty well known since 2009. Shame on me.
It’s supposed to be released in Fall 2012. That is, more than a year from now. (I hate it when they do that).
Some Pretty Sweet Etsy Finds to Start Us Off
Posted: June 6, 2011 Filed under: Accessories, Clothing, Findings | Tags: bath, blog, blue, brown, etsy, sarong, shopping, towel, turkish 2 Comments »I’m going to start off my blog by sharing a couple of things I found on Etsy recently. If you know me, then you already know I have my own Etsy shop where I sell jewelry. However, I also like to browse and look at things that I’m too broke to buy right now. I probably won’t be buying anything all summer because I’m saving up for an apartment when I go back to school, but I can dream.
Dark Chocolate Brown and Blue Sarong
First off, let me just say how much I love sarongs. My father used to live in the Virgin Islands and I would get a sarong every time I went down there, I still have my first ever one from like ten years ago, granted, it’s tattered and unwearable, but I still have it.
Secondly, let me say how much I love the color combination of brown and blue, if you couldn’t tell that by simply looking at this page.
So obviously, I love this:
I would never buy it, due to the price, but when I start making some money I might just look for something similar for a bit cheaper. The sad thing is, I almost never make it to the beach or places where wearing a sarong is appropriate, (actually I’m pretty sure no one would bat an eye on my hippie-campus if they saw me walking around in one) so mostly I’m stuck wearing them to bed or using them as sheets, if I actually wore ‘em on a regular basis I might be willing to spend that much money on it.
Now for something similar but very different:
Turkish freakin’ Bath Towels
These look ridiculously comfy and…I want one. If they feel how they look I’m pretty sure I could walk around in one of these all day, just lazying it up and not getting dressed. If I ever get rich I think I’m going to move to a tropic island somewhere and buy a whole bunch of these and a whole bunch of sarongs and live in them. That’s my dream for the future.
